Back of photo caption: Sunday, April 1, a Sunday School was opened at Seisen Lutheran Church, Azabu, Tokyo, and about 70 children came the very first time. This picture was taken at this very first session. The missionary had said earlier that he was afraid to start a Sunday School in his own home, because he wouldn’t know where to put the many children who would come. This picture shows graphically that his fear—or hopes, depending on how you look at it—were well-founded. Mission chapels need not be expensive, but some kind of modest building is needed to begin the work. In the background a Lutheran GI from Merrill, Wisconsin, bringing his Japanese wife to church. Also the Rev. and Mrs. Delmar Glock who arrived just two days earlier and now could see for themselves. Photo by [William J. Danker]
